Checked October 27, 2026
Capital One's early paycheck lets a 360 Checking customer with direct deposit get an eligible payment up to 2 days early, at no cost. It depends on the timing of your payer's payment instructions, so you may not always see it early. Capital One states no time of day on its early paycheck page. Discover's direct deposit page now opens this same Capital One page.
What Capital One says
These lines are from Capital One's own pages, read on October 27, 2026. Each one links to where it appears.
- “Access your paycheck up to 2 days early with 360 Checking.” The page says early paycheck is free with direct deposit for Capital One checking accounts. (Capital One, Early paycheck)
- “we are dependent on the timing of your payer's payment instructions.” Capital One adds that you may not always see your direct deposits arrive early, and that eligibility may vary between pay periods. (Capital One, Early paycheck (footnote))
- “It may take two cycles for your direct deposits to take effect.” Daily and transaction limits apply, and certain non-payroll and tax payments are not eligible. (Capital One, Early paycheck (footnote))

What counts as eligible
Capital One says early paycheck is for 360 Checking customers who set up direct deposit with an employer or other payer to receive electronic deposits of regular periodic payments. Its examples are salary, pension or government benefits.
It also says certain non-payroll and tax payments are not eligible. A one-time transfer from a friend or a refund is a different kind of payment from a paycheck, and Capital One's wording keeps the benefit for the regular kind.
The wait before it starts
Capital One's footnote says it may take two cycles for your direct deposits to take effect. In plain terms, a switch can take a pay cycle or two before it starts working.
That is not specific to Capital One. Wells Fargo, PNC and Ally say the same kind of thing. If you just switched, ask payroll for the date the change begins.
A rule about deposits and overdraft
The same page describes Capital One's no-fee overdraft. To qualify, it says you must regularly deposit at least $250 during two of the previous three calendar months. New accounts do not have no-fee overdraft until that requirement is met.
This is separate from early paycheck, but it means a late or missing paycheck can have a second cost. If you rely on overdraft as a cushion, a month with no deposit could affect it.
Discover customers
Discover's direct deposit page opens Capital One's early paycheck page for 360 Checking. If you bank with Discover, that page describes 360 Checking, and says nothing about a Discover account. Check your own account terms before you count on early pay.
How to set up direct deposit with Capital One
- Sign in to your 360 Checking account, or open one, and set up direct deposit, as Capital One's page says.
- Give them to your employer's payroll system, or use Capital One's direct deposit form.
- Turn on alerts in the Capital One Mobile app. The page says you get alerts when early paychecks are available.
Why your Capital One deposit might be late
- Your payer sent its payment instructions on payday, so there was nothing earlier to act on.
- Your direct deposit is still within its first two cycles.
- The payment is a type Capital One excludes, such as a tax payment.
- A daily or transaction limit applied to the amount.
If your Capital One deposit hasn't arrived
- Check the Capital One Mobile app for an early paycheck alert and your transaction list.
- Ask your employer for the date and amount it sent.
- If it confirms the payment went out, contact Capital One with those details.
If a bill is due before the money lands, call the biller before the due date. If a fee hits your account because of a late deposit, see how to get overdraft fees refunded. This is general information, not financial advice.
