An estimate for 2026: the year's income tax spread evenly over your paychecks, using the standard deduction. Your employer uses the IRS withholding tables and your W-4, so a real paycheck can be a little different. Credits (like the child tax credit), other income and local taxes aren't included.

How Colorado taxes a paycheck

Colorado hadn't published its 2026 figures when we checked, so the state part uses its 2025 figures. Federal figures are for 2026.

  • Colorado taxes income at one flat rate of 4.4%. The rate table in the Department of Revenue's Individual Income Tax Guide lists 4.4% for tax year 2025, the latest year it shows.
  • Colorado income tax is based on federal taxable income, so the federal standard deduction is the deduction here, and a 401(k) deferral is already out of it.
  • FAMLI premiums are set at 0.88% of wages, split 0.44% employer and 0.44% employee, on wages up to the federal Social Security wage cap. The FAMLI Division recalculates the rate every year after 2025, so it may change.

Colorado has a flat income tax of 4.4%. It starts from federal taxable income, so the federal standard deduction counts. Traditional 401(k) contributions come out of Colorado taxable pay.
