An estimate for 2026: the year's income tax spread evenly over your paychecks, using the standard deduction. Your employer uses the IRS withholding tables and your W-4, so a real paycheck can be a little different. Credits (like the child tax credit), other income and local taxes aren't included.

How Louisiana taxes a paycheck

  • Louisiana taxes individual income at a flat 3% for tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2025. The old graduated brackets were repealed.
  • The 2026 standard deduction is $12,875 for a single filer or a married person filing separately, and $25,750 for a married couple filing jointly, a surviving spouse or a head of household.
  • The deduction was $12,500 for a single filer in 2025, and double that for a married couple filing jointly, a surviving spouse or a head of household.
  • Employer withholding tables use 3.09% rather than 3% as a cushion, so the amount withheld can run a little above the tax owed.

Louisiana has a flat income tax of 3%. A single filer gets a standard deduction of $12,875. Traditional 401(k) contributions come out of Louisiana taxable pay.

What else comes out of a Louisiana paycheck

Beyond federal tax, Social Security, Medicare and Louisiana income tax, the calculator takes nothing else out of a Louisiana paycheck, other than what you choose, like a 401(k) or health insurance.

How often Louisiana employers pay

Under Louisiana law (R.S. 23:633), an employer must tell workers at hire what they will be paid and how often. If it names no paydays, it pays on the first and sixteenth of the month, or as near as practical. Manufacturers, oil-boring and mining employers with ten or more employees, and public service corporations must pay at least twice a month. Executive, administrative, supervisory and professional workers, and workers exempt under the federal wage law, are outside that section.

More about Louisiana pay

Louisiana's flat 3% replaced the old brackets starting with tax years beginning in 2025. Employer withholding tables use 3.09% as a cushion, so a paycheck can run a little above the tax owed.
