How to cancel your ChatGPT subscription
How to cancel ChatGPT Plus or another paid plan on the web, iPhone or Android, from OpenAI's help center, with the 24-hour rule and what happens to refunds.

Cancel your ChatGPT subscription on the web (chatgpt.com)
- Sign in to ChatGPT.
- Open your account menu and select Settings.
- Select Billing.
- Under Cancel plan, select Cancel.
If billing controls are missing on chatgpt.com, OpenAI says to sign in to the same ChatGPT account in a different browser and try again.
Cancel your ChatGPT subscription on an iPhone or iPad (Apple App Store)
- Open Settings.
- Select your name.
- Select Subscriptions.
- Select ChatGPT.
- Select Cancel Subscription.
- Confirm your cancellation.
If Cancel Subscription is not there and an expiration date is shown, the subscription may already be canceled.
Cancel your ChatGPT subscription on Android (Google Play app)
- Make sure you are signed in to the Google account you used to buy the subscription.
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Open Subscriptions.
- Select ChatGPT.
- Select Cancel subscription.
- Follow the instructions to confirm.
Cancel your ChatGPT subscription in a browser through Google Play
- Open your Google Play subscriptions and sign in with the Google account used to buy it.
- Next to ChatGPT, select Manage.
- Select Cancel subscription.
- If asked, pick a reason and select Continue.
Cancel your ChatGPT subscription for a self-service ChatGPT Business plan
- Sign in to ChatGPT.
- Open your account menu and select Workspace settings.
- Select Billing, then Manage plan.
- Select Cancel subscription and confirm.
If you can't reach workspace billing, ask your workspace owner. OpenAI's article does not cover Enterprise or Edu plans.
Before you cancel your ChatGPT subscription
- Web, Apple and Google Play subscriptions are separate. A subscription bought on chatgpt.com does not show in your Apple or Google Play subscriptions, so check your receipt to see who billed you.
- OpenAI says to cancel at least 24 hours before your next billing date. If you cancel closer than that, the next charge may already have gone through.
- After an ordinary cancellation, paid features stay available until the end of the current billing period.
- Canceling stops future renewals. It does not automatically refund earlier charges. Refund eligibility depends on your purchase and location.
- To ask for a refund on a chatgpt.com or Google Play subscription, contact OpenAI Support while signed in to the account that was charged. For an Apple App Store subscription, ask Apple.
- Uninstalling the app does not cancel. Deleting your ChatGPT account cancels a subscription billed directly by ChatGPT, but not one billed by Apple, and for Google Play OpenAI says to check and cancel it there.
- If you can no longer use the email on a subscription billed by ChatGPT, OpenAI Support can cancel it after you give the account or billing email plus any two of: the card's last four digits, the expiration date, the billing address, or the date of a recent charge. Never send the full card number.
After you cancel
Keep the confirmation email or screenshot. Then watch your bank or card for the next billing date: if your ChatGPT subscription charges you again after you cancelled, ask your ChatGPT subscription for a refund first, and if that fails, dispute the charge with your card. How do I cancel my ChatGPT subscription?
Go to the place you paid. On chatgpt.com that is Settings, then Billing, then Cancel under Cancel plan. On iPhone it is Settings, your name, Subscriptions, ChatGPT. On Android it is Subscriptions in the Google Play Store app.
Does uninstalling the ChatGPT app cancel my subscription?
No. OpenAI says uninstalling the app does not cancel it. Cancel through the platform that billed you.
Will I get a refund if I cancel ChatGPT Plus?

Check your receipt to see where you paid. A web subscription does not appear in Apple or Google Play, and an Apple or Google subscription needs the same store account you bought with. Check each Google account on your device.
Can I cancel ChatGPT if I can't sign in?
If it is billed directly by ChatGPT, OpenAI Support can cancel it once you verify the account or billing email and two billing details. For Apple or Google Play, use the store account you bought with.
