Simplifi vs EveryDollar in 2026: which is better?

Quicken Simplifi and EveryDollar both help you plan your month, and both let a partner in. The difference that decides most picks is what is free and what links your bank.

We make Wonderful, and it's on this list. Everything said about the other apps comes from their own pricing and help pages, the app stores and what their users say in public, each linked in the sources. Nobody paid to be listed, and we don't earn anything if you pick one of them.

How we compared

Both are budgets first, so we looked at what separates them in practice:

  • Price and what is free. What you pay, and what the free version leaves out.
  • How budgeting works. What you set up and what you see each day.
  • Bank connections. Whether transactions arrive on their own, and what reviewers say.
  • Couples. How a partner joins.
  • What people say. Public App Store reviews from 2026.

We read Ramsey Solutions' EveryDollar plans and budget pages, Quicken's Simplifi product page and help articles, and the app stores, and re-read both prices on November 3, 2026. EveryDollar's help center did not load, so US-only availability and refund terms are not confirmed. Every fact is numbered to its source at the end.

Simplifi vs EveryDollar price and what is free

EveryDollar: A free version you can use as long as you want. It has a monthly budget, unlimited categories, manual transactions, sinking funds, split transactions, bill due dates and live-person support. It does not import transactions from a bank.[8][9] Premium is $17.99 a month or $79.99 billed yearly, about $6.67 a month.[8][10] Paid monthly it comes to $215.88 a year.[8] Premium includes a 14-day free trial, for new users only.[8]

Simplifi: $3.99 a month billed annually, with $6.99 beside it on the page. The page says the offer is for the first year when ordered directly from Quicken by November 29, 2026.[1] Only annual plans are offered, and renewals are charged at the full standard price.[5] No free plan. Simplifi "requires an active annual subscription"; without one you cannot view your data or add transactions.[5]

Trial and refunds. "While we do not offer a free trial" there is a 30-day money-back guarantee from the original purchase date, for purchases made directly on Quicken.com.[5] The plans page does not mention a refund policy. Purchases made through Apple or Google Play are cancelled and refunded through them.[8]

The honest comparison depends on bank sync. A free EveryDollar means typing in transactions. With bank import, EveryDollar Premium is $79.99 a year and Simplifi is about $48 in the first year. See EveryDollar pricing and Simplifi pricing for every plan.

How budgeting works in each

EveryDollar is zero-based. Zero-based budgeting: plan every dollar before the month starts so income minus expenses equals zero.[9] Free: monthly budget, unlimited categories and line items, split transactions, due dates for bills, and savings goals for big purchases.[8][10] Sinking funds for future expenses, in the free version.[8][9]

Simplifi starts from a plan. A spending plan that shows what you can spend per day.[1] Projected cash flow with "what-if" scenarios.[1] Tracks upcoming bills and subscriptions and shows all your subscriptions.[1] Savings goals, reports and insights.[1]

Put plainly, EveryDollar asks you to assign every dollar before the month starts, and you work down your lines. Simplifi takes your income, subtracts the bills it can see, and shows what is left to spend per day. If you like a written zero-based habit, see our zero-based budget apps. If you want a forecast, Simplifi has one.

Extras

Investment tracking with cost basis, performance analysis and real-time quotes.[1] A retirement planner.[1] On EveryDollar, Premium adds net worth tracking and a financial roadmap for long-term goals.[8][10] Premium includes live Q&A with coaches, and group or one-on-one coaching.[8]

Bank connections

Automatically categorizes transactions and connects to over 14,000 financial institutions.[1] Premium imports transactions automatically from connected accounts. Ramsey says it uses Mastercard Connect and Plaid.[8] In 2026 reviews, both have problems. Bank connections: App Store reviewers in 2026 report main banks disconnecting, accounts that will not sync, and long waits for fixes.[7] Bank connections that drop or need reconnecting. Several 2026 reviews describe transactions arriving days late or needing a reconnect.[12] The useful test is your own banks, in the first days. EveryDollar's 14-day trial and Simplifi's 30-day refund (direct purchases only) are the windows for it.

Couples and sharing

  • EveryDollar: A Household feature lets a couple manage one budget together, even when each partner signs in with a separate email. The page does not say whether it is free or Premium only.[8][9] Not stated. The pages describe one shared budget, not separate views.[8][9]
  • Simplifi: Spaces sharing: you can share your data with one additional member. They need their own Quicken ID but not their own subscription, and must accept the invite on the web app.[1][3] Sharing is full access to the one shared space. Sharing specific accounts or features is not available yet, and the article says it "may be added" in the future. You can remove a member at any time.[3]

Both describe one shared budget or space, not separate views. A Simplifi invitee must accept on the web app, because signing in on the mobile app prompts them to subscribe.[3] EveryDollar's weak spot is that its plans page does not say whether Household is free. Check that before you rely on it. If each of you wants to keep some money private, see our guide to couples budgeting apps and privacy.

What people say

These are public App Store reviews from 2026. Reviews skew toward people with a problem or a strong feeling, so read them as examples, not a vote.

EveryDollar

App Store review (5 stars)· September 2026
“My wife and I’ve been using this app for eight years. Can’t live without it.”
Read it where it was said ↗
App Store review (2 stars)· July 2026
“Continually drops bank connections and no refund offered after 30 days. If you download, don’t shell out the $80 to link banks.”
Read it where it was said ↗

The other complaints are about price and updates: Paying for bank sync. Reviewers say the $80 a year is steep for an app aimed at people getting out of debt.[12] Updates that removed things people used, such as forcing a refresh or splitting transactions.[12]

Simplifi

App Store review· July 2026
“Easy to set up. For me it’s great! Tracking my finances - I only have to look in one place for everything. Love it!”

App Store review· September 2026
“I’ve been waiting for a fix on my main bank for almost a month. Every time I contact they just say there’s no updates. Going to use something else.”

The App Store reviews are on Quicken's general app, so a few may be about other Quicken plans. No trial: Quicken lists no free trial, and reviewers say they wish there had been one before paying.[5][7]

A third option

We make Wonderful, so weigh this as you would any maker's note. Simplifi and EveryDollar both give two people one shared budget. If you and a partner keep your own money, Each person chooses, account by account, whether the other sees everything, only totals, or nothing.[14] Shared costs split evenly, by income, or any way you choose, and it keeps a running total of who owes whom.[15] Every paycheck gets a plan for bills, spending and saving before it lands.[15]

Wonderful costs $14.99 a month or $99 a year for both of you, with a free week first and no free plan after it, so it is not the free pick. It has no iPhone or Android app yet and gives no investment advice. If free matters most, start with EveryDollar's free version.

Questions people ask

Simplifi vs EveryDollar: which is better?

EveryDollar suits people who want to plan every dollar and start free by typing transactions in; bank import is Premium at $79.99 a year. Simplifi suits people who want accounts linked from the start, a daily spending number and cash-flow projections, at $3.99 a month billed annually for the first year. Simplifi has no free plan and no free trial.

Is EveryDollar really free?

There is a free version you can use as long as you want, with a monthly budget, unlimited categories, split transactions and manual transactions. It does not import transactions from a bank. That is Premium, at $17.99 a month or $79.99 a year, with a 14-day trial for new users.

Is Simplifi cheaper than EveryDollar Premium?

In the first year, yes, if the $3.99 a month offer holds: about $48 against $79.99. Quicken's page says the offer is for the first year on orders placed directly with Quicken and that renewal is at the then-current rate. Its page also shows $6.99 beside the offer without a label, so the second-year price is not clear.

Does Simplifi have a free version or trial like EveryDollar?

No. Quicken's help center says Simplifi requires an active annual subscription and offers no free trial, only a 30-day money-back guarantee on purchases made directly on Quicken.com. EveryDollar has a free version and a 14-day Premium trial.

Which is better for couples, Simplifi or EveryDollar?

Both let two people share. EveryDollar's Household feature lets a couple manage one budget with separate sign-in emails, but its plans page does not say whether it is free or Premium. Simplifi shares one space with one additional member, who needs their own Quicken ID, at no second subscription.

Do Simplifi and EveryDollar connect to my bank?

Simplifi does, from the start, and says it connects to over 14,000 institutions. EveryDollar only does on Premium, through Mastercard Connect and Plaid. Reviews of both in 2026 describe connections that drop or arrive late.

Is EveryDollar zero-based and is Simplifi?

EveryDollar is built on zero-based budgeting: plan every dollar so income minus expenses equals zero. Simplifi starts from income, subtracts bills and subscriptions, and shows what you can spend per day, and its page lists zero-based and envelope methods among those it works with.

Do I need Dave Ramsey's plan to use EveryDollar?

EveryDollar is made by Ramsey Solutions. Its plans page describes a budgeting app, and Premium includes live Q&A with coaches and coaching. Simplifi has no coaching, but includes phone, chat and forum support with every subscription.

How do I cancel Simplifi or EveryDollar?

Quicken's help center says cancelling Simplifi turns off auto-renewal and keeps access until the billing period ends. EveryDollar's plans page does not state a refund policy, and purchases made through Apple or Google Play are cancelled and refunded through them. One July 2026 reviewer says no refund was offered after 30 days.
