What time does Chime direct deposit hit?
What time does Chime direct deposit hit? It posts when it gets the payment file, up to 2 days early. Its guide says most land by 9 a.m.
Checked October 27, 2026
Chime posts a direct deposit the moment it gets the payment file from your employer, which can be up to two days before payday. Chime's own guide says deposits generally arrive by 9 a.m. local time on payday. Its help pages give no hour for an early one, because that depends on when your employer sends the file. Chime shows no pending deposits: if you don't see it, Chime hasn't received it yet.
What Chime says
These lines are from Chime's own pages, read on October 27, 2026. Each one links to where it appears.
- “up to two days before your scheduled pay date.” Chime makes a qualifying direct deposit available right away, and in some cases that is up to two days early. (Chime Help Center, Get paid early and qualifying direct deposits)
- “How early depends on when your payer submits the payment file.” Early access is not guaranteed every pay period, and your first deposit may not arrive early. (Chime Help Center, Get paid early and qualifying direct deposits)
- “Chime doesn't hold deposits or show them as pending.” As soon as Chime receives the payment file, the money is posted. If you don't see a deposit, it is still with your payer. (Chime Help Center, Where's my direct deposit?)
- “deposits arrive by 9 a.m. local time on your scheduled pay date.” This is Chime's general line for any direct deposit, in a guide dated August 19, 2026. It adds that timing depends on your employer's schedule and your bank's processing. (Chime blog, What Time Does Direct Deposit Hit?)

What time of day does a Chime deposit post?
Chime gives two kinds of answer. For payday itself, its guide says deposits generally arrive by 9 a.m. local time. For an early deposit, its help pages name no hour at all. They say Chime makes the money available when it receives the payment file, and the file's arrival is up to your payer.
That is a fair description of how the system works. Your employer sends payroll through the ACH network, and the Federal Reserve moves it in batches on business days. Chime posts whatever batch has your name in it when the batch lands. So an early deposit can show up at a different hour each time.
Why it may not be two days early
Chime lists the common reasons a given pay period is not early. Your payer sent the payment file on the pay date instead of ahead of it. The deposit amount or account details changed. A bank holiday shifted your payer's submission schedule. Your employer had a payroll system problem. Or it was your first deposit with Chime.
The first of those matters most. Chime cannot post a payment it has not received. If your employer runs payroll the morning of payday, the earliest your money can show is payday morning. Chime says that in that case the deposit should still land on or before your scheduled pay date.
Qualifying deposits and the upgrade tiers
Chime ties some perks to qualifying direct deposits. A single qualifying deposit of $200 or more, or $400 or more in total within the last 34 days, upgrades you to Chime Plus. Deposits of $3,000 or more in total within the last 34 days upgrade you to Chime Prime. Chime's pages name higher savings rates and priority support as the benefits.
These tiers do not change when a paycheck posts. They matter because a deposit that is late, or returned, can move you across a 34-day line.
Why Chime may return a deposit
Chime lists four reasons it returns a direct deposit. The name on the deposit does not match the name on your Chime account. The account is closed. The deposit comes from a business or corporate source that a personal account cannot accept. Or the payer reversed it.
A returned deposit goes back to the payer, and Chime says it can take several business days for the payer to get it. That is why a name mismatch is worth fixing before your first payday. Chime's guide to how direct deposit works says the names must match or the deposit could be delayed or returned.
How to set up direct deposit with Chime
- Find your account and routing numbers in the Chime app under Profile, then Account details. On chime.com, log in, click Profile, and open Direct deposit setup.
- Give them to your employer's payroll portal, or use the completed direct deposit form. In the app, tap Move, then Set up direct deposit, then Get direct deposit form.
- Use the routing number on that form if your payroll system rejects the one in the app. Chime says the form shows the routing number for your partner bank, either Stride Bank, N.A. or The Bancorp Bank, N.A.
- Check that your Chime account name matches the name your employer has on file.
Why your Chime deposit might be late
- Your employer sent the payment file on payday, not before it.
- The amount or account details on file changed since the last deposit.
- A bank holiday moved your payer's submission date.
- It was your first deposit cycle with Chime.
- The name on the deposit does not match the name on the account.
If your Chime deposit hasn't arrived
- Open the app and tap Direct deposit, then My deposits. Chime shows an estimated arrival based on your payment history.
- Ask your payer for the ACH trace number if it confirms the money was sent. Chime says support can use it to confirm receipt.
- Chat with Chime support in the app, or call (844) 244-6363, which Chime says is open 24/7.
- Check that push notifications are on. Chime says it sends a push notification and an email when a deposit arrives.
If a bill is due before the money lands, call the biller before the due date. If a fee hits your account because of a late deposit, see how to get overdraft fees refunded. This is general information, not financial advice.
Dates to know
The Federal Reserve is closed on its holidays, and several banks warn that a holiday can delay a deposit. The next ones are Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, 2026; Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, 2026; Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, 2026.
