What decides whether it is early
TD names three things. When TD receives the payor's payment instructions. Any limits TD sets on the amount and frequency of early availability. And standard fraud prevention screening. If a direct deposit is not made available early, TD says it follows its Availability of Funds Policy in the Personal Deposit Account Agreement.
That makes the payor's date the one you can influence. Ask payroll when it sends instructions, and you will know your best case.
Which deposits are eligible
TD limits eligible direct deposits to electronic ones such as payroll, pension and government benefit payments. Its page also lists military pay and tax refunds. Person-to-person payments such as Zelle, check or mobile deposits and other online transfers are not eligible.
If a payor reverses an early deposit
TD's disclosure is direct about the risk. If it made funds available early and the payor reverses or requests a return of the deposit, or the funds are otherwise uncollected, TD may debit your account up to the amount it made available. It can do so even if you already withdrew the funds or it creates an overdraft, without prior notice.
You are responsible for fees charged as a result, including those from merchants or third parties. If you can wait, consider leaving an early deposit alone until your normal payday.
TD can end it
TD says Early Pay is offered at its discretion and it can cancel the service at any time without notice. Nothing in the disclosure makes it a permanent feature, so treat your payday date as the real one.
How to set up direct deposit with TD Bank
- Complete direct deposit enrollment in the TD app or Online Banking. TD says there are no forms to fill out or account numbers to track down.
- If you need to enroll another way, download TD's form for paycheck, Social Security or pension payments.
- Sign up for TD Alerts to be told when you receive a direct deposit, including early ones.
Why your TD Bank deposit might be late
- Your payor's instructions reached TD on payday.
- TD's limits on the amount or frequency applied.
- Fraud screening held it to the regular schedule.
- The deposit is a type that isn't eligible, such as a Zelle payment.
If your TD Bank deposit hasn't arrived
- Check TD Alerts and your account for the deposit.
- Ask your payor when it sent instructions to TD.
- If it confirms the send date, contact TD. A deposit that isn't early follows TD's Availability of Funds Policy.
If a bill is due before the money lands, call the biller before the due date. If a fee hits your account because of a late deposit, see how to get overdraft fees refunded. This is general information, not financial advice.
