An estimate for 2026: the year's income tax spread evenly over your paychecks, using the standard deduction. Your employer uses the IRS withholding tables and your W-4, so a real paycheck can be a little different. Credits (like the child tax credit), other income and local taxes aren't included.
How Vermont taxes a paycheck
Vermont hadn't published its 2026 figures when we checked, so the state part uses its 2025 figures. Federal figures are for 2026.
- Vermont has four rates, from 3.35% to 8.75%, with separate bracket schedules for single filers, joint filers and heads of household.
- Taxable income starts from federal adjusted gross income, then takes off a Vermont standard deduction ($7,650 single, $15,300 joint, $11,450 head of household for 2025) and $5,300 for each personal exemption.
- A traditional 401(k) deferral is left out of Vermont income, because the return starts from federal adjusted gross income.
- These are the 2025 figures from the Department of Taxes' return instructions. The department's 2026 withholding tables keep the same four rates, but its rate schedules page lists 2025 as the latest tax year, so the page uses 2025.
- Vermont adds a minimum tax of 3% of adjusted gross income for filers with income over $150,000; the calculator does not include it.
Vermont has 4 tax brackets, from 3.35% up to 8.75%. A single filer gets a standard deduction of $7,650 and a personal exemption of $5,300. Traditional 401(k) contributions come out of Vermont taxable pay.
