How to cancel a Google Play subscription

How to cancel a Google Play subscription on Android, what you keep until the paid period ends, how pausing works, and why uninstalling the app won't stop it.

Checked October 27, 2026

On Android, open your subscriptions page in Google Play, select the subscription, tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions. You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. Uninstalling the app does not cancel it.

Cancel a Google Play subscription on an Android phone or tablet

  1. On your Android device, go to subscriptions in Google Play.
  2. Select the subscription you want to cancel.
  3. Tap Cancel subscription.
  4. Follow the instructions.

Google says that when you uninstall the app, your subscription won't cancel.

Cancel a Google Play subscription on a computer

  1. On your computer, go to subscriptions in Google Play.
  2. For the subscription you want to cancel, click Manage.
  3. Click Cancel subscription.
  4. In the confirmation pop-up, select a reason.
  5. Click Continue.

Before you cancel a Google Play subscription

  • Sign in to the Google Account that has the subscription. If you can't find it, it may be on another account, so switch accounts and check there. To see whether it is recurring or prepaid, sign in at pay.google.com under Subscriptions.
  • Subscriptions have no fixed end date. You are charged at the start of each billing cycle until you cancel.
  • After you cancel you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. Google's example: a yearly plan bought January 1 and canceled July 1 stays active until December 31 and does not renew.
  • Changed your mind? Go to subscriptions and tap Resubscribe. Some subscriptions can't be resumed that way, and then you set them up again.
  • Google says: when you uninstall the app, your subscription won't cancel. Cancel from the subscriptions page.
  • Pausing is possible only if the app supports it: select the subscription, tap Manage, then Pause payments, pick a period from one week to three months, and tap Confirm. The pause starts at the end of the current billing period. To resume, select the paused subscription and tap Resume.
  • Prepaid plans expire on their own and don't need canceling.
  • Payment plans: you can't cancel installments that are left. Stopping renewal prevents future renewals, but you still owe the remaining payments.
  • Unused prepaid plans may be refundable. Past subscription charges generally can't be refunded except as Google's refund policy allows.
  • For Play Pass, installed apps and their data stay on your device after you cancel, but in-app purchases are removed and ads return. Rejoining restores everything.

After you cancel

Keep the confirmation email or screenshot. Then watch your bank or card for the next billing date: if a Google Play subscription charges you again after you cancelled, ask a Google Play subscription for a refund first, and if that fails, dispute the charge with your card. The guide to disputing a charge has the steps and the deadlines.
