EveryDollar vs Rocket Money in 2026: which is better?

EveryDollar and Rocket Money both show up when people look for a budgeting app, but one starts from a plan and the other starts from your subscriptions. Here is what each costs, what is free and what users say.

We make Wonderful, and it's on this list. Everything said about the other apps comes from their own pricing and help pages, the app stores and what their users say in public, each linked in the sources. Nobody paid to be listed, and we don't earn anything if you pick one of them.

The short version

Pick EveryDollar if you want a plan for every dollar before the month starts: free, or $79.99 a year with bank import. Pick Rocket Money if you want to find forgotten subscriptions and have them cancelled; its free plan lists them, and cancelling for you and budgets are Premium. Rocket Money's Premium price is one you choose, and Premium+ is $15 a month.

  • EveryDollar$79.99
  • Wonderful$99

EveryDollar Premium's yearly plan, Rocket Money's one fixed price (Premium+ at $15 a month, twelve months), and Wonderful's yearly plan for two people. Rocket Money Premium is a price you pick and is not shown. Both apps have free plans.

Two different jobs

EveryDollar is a budget. Zero-based budgeting: plan every dollar before the month starts so income minus expenses equals zero.[2]

Rocket Money is a finder. Finds recurring subscriptions in one place. On Premium, a team cancels them for you; its cost article says this usually takes 2 to 10 days. On Free you cancel them yourself.[6] Tracks upcoming bills, net income and spending, with automatic categories.[6]

The overlap is budgets and spending breakdowns. If you want to cancel what you forgot, start with Rocket Money. If you want to decide where next month's pay goes, start with EveryDollar. For a ranked list of the first kind see subscription managers.

EveryDollar vs Rocket Money price and trial

EveryDollar: free, or Premium at $17.99 a month or $79.99 a year.[1] Premium includes a 14-day free trial, for new users only.[1]

Rocket Money: its learn article says Premium is "typically $7 to $14 per month, subject to change," chosen on a sliding scale. Its help center gives no numbers, and the App Store lists Premium purchases from $2.99 to $9.99 without billing periods. Premium+ is a fixed $15 a month plus tax.[6][7][9] At the article's range, twelve months of Premium comes to $84 to $168, against $79.99 for EveryDollar Premium by the year; that is our arithmetic, not Rocket Money's figure.

The help center says new Premium members get a 7-day free trial, then the subscription continues at the price chosen at sign-up. The learn article states no trial.[6][7] Reviewers describe being charged $15 after picking $7, so check the confirmation screen before you pay. For each app's plans see EveryDollar pricing and Rocket Money pricing.[11]

One more cost: Bill negotiation: from November 2, 2026, new negotiations can be submitted only by Premium+ members ($15 a month plus tax), with "no added success fee" and one in progress at a time. Before that date, Free and Premium members paid 35% to 60% of the first year's savings, and a negotiation already underway finishes under that agreement. Automatic renegotiations ended November 1, 2026.[6][7][13]

What the free plans leave out

A free version you can use as long as you want. It has a monthly budget, unlimited categories, manual transactions, sinking funds, split transactions, bill due dates and live-person support. It does not import transactions from a bank.[1][2]

A free plan exists. It links accounts (not in real time), lists your subscriptions but you cancel them yourself, shows spending breakdowns and a credit score, and is mobile only. The cost article lists budgets and the bill timeline as Premium.[6][7] The sources disagree about free budgets: the FAQ says Free users can create up to two custom category budgets, and the cost article marks Free budgets "No."[6][8] Check in the app before you count on one.

EveryDollar vs Rocket Money for couples

EveryDollar: A Household feature lets a couple manage one budget together, even when each partner signs in with a separate email. The page does not say whether it is free or Premium only.[1][2]

Rocket Money: Account sharing with a partner is listed as a Premium feature.[6] The pages we read do not say what a partner sees or whether they pay.[6][8] Neither describes splitting a bill between two people; for that, use the fair split calculator and read budgeting for couples.

Past months and the new monthly close

At least eight of the 150 newest EveryDollar App Store reviews, dated October 28 to November 1, 2026, describe a monthly close that locks a past month. EveryDollar's help center did not load for us, so this is what reviewers report, not Ramsey's wording. Rocket Money's pages we read describe no such lock.

“The monthly close locks your budget and you cannot edit it. It also carries over leftover budget which is not how I handle my budget! I cancelled my subscription.”

A third option

We make Wonderful, so weigh this accordingly. It is not free: a free week, then $14.99 a month or $99 a year for both of you. Every paycheck gets a plan for bills, spending and saving before it lands.[16] Finds recurring charges and subscriptions, lists what's due before your next paycheck, and flags a bill that comes in higher than usual. It doesn't cancel them for you.[16] It runs in the browser with no iPhone or Android app yet. If you need subscriptions cancelled, use Rocket Money; if you want a free budget, use EveryDollar.

Is EveryDollar or Rocket Money free?
