The short version
Pick Credit Karma if what you want is a free credit score, a credit report and alerts when they change. Pick Rocket Money if you want to find subscriptions, set budgets and, on Premium+ at $15 a month, have bills negotiated. Credit Karma is free and has no budget builder in the pages we read. Rocket Money has a free plan too, but budgets and cancelling for you are paid.

No paid plan with a listed price: Credit Karma.
Rocket Money's bar is Premium+, the only plan with a fixed price ($15 a month). Its Premium is pay what you think is fair, typically $7 to $14 a month. Credit Karma is free. A partner is included in Wonderful's price.
Two different jobs
Credit Karma is, first, a credit app. The home page lists a free credit score, credit report and credit monitoring. Its App Store listing adds spending tracking with automatic categories, credit card and loan offers, a checking account, and tax tools. The pages we read name no budget builder; a budget, in the sense of a limit per category, is not described.[10][11]
A credit score, per the CFPB, is "a prediction of your credit behavior, such as how likely you are to pay a loan back on time, based on information from your credit reports." That tells you how lenders may see you. It doesn't tell you where this month's paycheck went.[1]
Rocket Money starts from your spending. It finds recurring subscriptions in one place, tracks upcoming bills and net income, and sorts spending into categories. On Premium it adds budgets, a team that cancels subscriptions for you, net worth and goals, and credit report monitoring.[2]
In short, one answers "how is my credit" and the other answers "where is my money going". They overlap in one place, a credit score on the free plan. If you want a fuller budget, see the best budgeting apps.
Rocket Money vs Credit Karma price
Credit Karma is free to download and use per the App Store, which lists it as Free. A paid tier, Credit Karma Plus, is described as "gradually rolling out" with no price. The free price is paid for in offers: the listing says its loan offers come from advertisers from which it receives compensation.[11]
Rocket Money's free plan is mobile only. It links accounts (not in real time), lists your subscriptions, shows spending breakdowns and a credit score, and you cancel subscriptions yourself. Premium is a sliding scale you choose, "typically $7 to $14 per month, subject to change". Premium+ is a fixed $15 a month plus tax. The sources disagree on whether Free allows budgets; the cost article lists them as Premium.[2][3][4]
The price is not fixed on Premium, and that is the most common complaint. Many October 2026 App Store reviews say they picked a lower price and were charged $15. More on that is in Rocket Money pricing.[7]
Bill negotiation moved to Premium+
This changed on November 2, 2026. New bill negotiations can be submitted only by Premium+ members, at $15 a month plus tax, with "no added success fee" and one negotiation in progress at a time. Before that date, Free and Premium members paid 35% to 60% of the first year's savings. A negotiation already underway finishes under that agreement, and automatic renegotiations ended November 1.[2][3][9]
Credit Karma has no bill negotiation in the pages we read. If that is the feature you came for, see bill negotiation apps, and note that a flat $15 a month adds up to $180 a year before you save anything.
For couples
Account sharing with a partner is listed as a Premium feature.[2] The pages we read don't say what a partner sees, and they don't describe splitting a cost between two people. The Credit Karma pages we read don't say whether a partner can join.
What reviewers report
These are single App Store reviews, not a count. Rocket Money reviewers describe being charged more than expected, cancellation that does not work, the negotiation fee, and subscriptions that are missing or accounts that drop.[7]
Credit Karma reviewers in October 2026 complain about ads, notifications and credit card offers, and say the categories they set revert to others, some nightly.[12]

Choose Rocket Money or Credit Karma
Choose Credit Karma if you:
- Want a free credit score and report, and alerts when they change
- Are comparing loans or cards and are fine seeing offers
- Want a light look at spending, not a budget
Choose Rocket Money if you:
- Want to find subscriptions you forgot, and cancel them
- Want budgets and bill reminders, and will pay for Premium
- Want bills negotiated and accept $15 a month for Premium+
Both are free to start, so using both is reasonable: one for credit, one for spending. For other Rocket Money matchups see Rocket Money vs Monarch and YNAB vs Rocket Money; for replacements, Credit Karma alternatives.
A third option
We make Wonderful, so weigh this as you would any maker's note. Wonderful is a budgeting plan for every paycheck, not credit monitoring: it shows no credit score. It finds subscriptions and bills but doesn't cancel them.
3. Couples who keep their own money and share some of it
Wonderful
$14.99/mo or $99/yr· Web
What it is
A budgeting app for couples who keep their own money, and for one person: each of you connects your own bank, chooses what the other sees, and every paycheck gets a plan.
Why it's on this list
Finds recurring charges and subscriptions, lists what's due before your next paycheck, and flags a bill that comes in higher than usual. It doesn't cancel them for you.[16] Texts you by iMessage when a bill is charged twice, a price goes up or a refund lands, and you can text it questions.[16]
It is not free: a free week, then $14.99 a month or $99 a year for the household. It is the wrong pick if you want a credit score, bill negotiation, a phone app (it runs in the browser only), or a free plan.
Ideal for: One person or two who want a plan for each paycheck, and to see what is due before the next one.
What it does
- Every paycheck gets a plan for bills, spending and saving before it lands.[16]
- Banks connect through Plaid and every charge is sorted into a category.[15][16]
- Mine, yours and ours: each charge counts for the person or the pair it belongs to.[16]
- Finds recurring charges and subscriptions, lists what's due before your next paycheck, and flags a bill that comes in higher than usual. It doesn't cancel them for you.[16]
- Texts you by iMessage when a bill is charged twice, a price goes up or a refund lands, and you can text it questions.[16]
- Savings goals show the month you'll reach them.[16]
- Net worth for each of you and for both, from the balances your banks send, with its line over time.[16]
- Life events like getting married come step by step, with the deadlines.[16]

Questions people ask
Rocket Money vs Credit Karma: what is the main difference?
Credit Karma is mainly a free credit score and report app that also tracks spending. Rocket Money is a money app that finds subscriptions, can cancel them and negotiate bills, and builds budgets. They do different jobs, and plenty of people have both.
Is Credit Karma a budgeting app?
Not mainly. It tracks monthly spending and categorizes transactions from linked accounts, and shows cash flow and net worth views. The pages we read name no budget builder, no category limits and no goals.
Do both apps show a credit score for free?
Yes. Credit Karma's free app is built around credit scores and reports. Rocket Money's free plan shows a credit score, and full credit report monitoring is a Premium feature.
Is Rocket Money free?
There is a free plan: it links accounts, lists subscriptions, shows spending breakdowns and a credit score, on mobile only. Budgets, cancelling for you and partner sharing are Premium. Premium is pay what you think is fair, typically $7 to $14 a month. Premium+ is $15 a month.
Does Rocket Money still negotiate bills for free members?
No. Since November 2, 2026, new bill negotiations can be submitted only by Premium+ members, at $15 a month plus tax with no success fee. Before that date Free and Premium members paid 35% to 60% of the first year's savings. A negotiation already underway finishes under the old agreement.
How does Credit Karma make money if it is free?
Its App Store listing says it shows loan offers from third party advertisers from which it receives compensation, and the app also shows credit card and insurance offers. Reviewers complain about the number of offers and ads.
Can Rocket Money cancel subscriptions that Credit Karma can't?
Credit Karma's pages we read don't describe finding or cancelling subscriptions. Rocket Money lists them on the free plan, and on Premium a team cancels them for you, which its article says usually takes 2 to 10 days.
Which is better for couples?
Rocket Money lists account sharing with a partner as a Premium feature. The Credit Karma pages we read don't say whether a partner can join. For two people with their own money, see the third option below.
What is a credit score?
The CFPB defines it as a prediction of your credit behavior, such as how likely you are to pay a loan back on time, based on information from your credit reports. It says how lenders may see you, not where your money goes each month.
