How to cancel Microsoft 365

How to cancel a Microsoft 365 Home, Personal or Family subscription from your Microsoft account, what happens to OneDrive storage, and Apple or Google billing.

Checked October 22, 2026

Sign in at account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365, select Cancel subscription (it may say Upgrade or Cancel), and choose "I don't want my subscription". If you bought through Apple or Google Play, cancel with them instead.

Cancel Microsoft 365 in your Microsoft account

  1. Go to account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and sign in with the Microsoft account you used to buy the subscription.
  2. Select Cancel subscription. It may say Upgrade or Cancel.
  3. At the bottom, select "I don't want my subscription".

If you see Turn on recurring billing instead, the subscription already expires on the date shown and won't renew.

Cancel Microsoft 365 by turning off recurring billing

  1. Sign in at account.microsoft.com/services.
  2. Find your subscription and select Manage.
  3. Review the details and select Turn off recurring billing.
  4. Scroll down and choose "I don't want my subscription" or "I want to keep my benefits".

Microsoft says this stops future charges and the subscription keeps working until it expires. People you share Family with keep access until then too. If you don't see the option, the subscription ends on the date under Expires on.

Before you cancel Microsoft 365

  • Microsoft says not every cancellation is refunded. To find out whether a subscription bought from Microsoft is eligible, you have to cancel first.
  • After you cancel, storage drops to 5 GB of cloud storage (OneDrive and Outlook.com attachments) plus 15 GB of Outlook.com storage. On a Family or Premium plan, the people you share with are cut back too.
  • If you're over the free allowance, you can't upload, edit or sync new OneDrive files, and you can't send or receive Outlook.com email. Microsoft says that after 6 months it may delete your OneDrive and the files in it.
  • If you bought through the Google Play or Apple App Store, contact that store to cancel or get a refund. See /cancel/google-play and /cancel/apple-subscriptions.
  • If you bought from a retailer such as Amazon, contact the retailer.
  • Turning off recurring billing doesn't end the subscription right away. It runs to the expiry date.

After you cancel

Keep the confirmation email or screenshot. Then watch your bank or card for the next billing date: if Microsoft 365 charges you again after you cancelled, ask Microsoft 365 for a refund first, and if that fails, dispute the charge with your card. The guide to disputing a charge has the steps and the deadlines.
