How to cancel your Shopify plan

How to cancel a Shopify plan and deactivate your store from Settings, then Plan, what to do first, the no-refund policy, and how to reopen within 2 years.

Checked October 22, 2026

As the store owner, go to Settings, then Plan, click Cancel plan (or Cancel trial), and follow the steps. Shopify says deactivating cancels your subscription at the end of your current billing cycle, and it has a strict no-refund policy for plans.

Cancel your Shopify plan on a computer (Shopify admin)

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings, then Plan.
  2. Click Cancel trial or Cancel plan.
  3. Review any downgrade or Pause and build options, plus domains and pending charges.
  4. Select Cancel my plan and uninstall all apps, then click Continue.
  5. Select a deactivation reason, optionally add a comment, then click Continue.
  6. Optional: select Save payment details to reopen your store faster.
  7. Enter your password, then click Cancel trial or Cancel plan.

Cancel your Shopify plan in the Shopify mobile app

  1. Log in to the Shopify app as the store owner.
  2. Tap the menu icon, then Settings, then Plan.
  3. Follow the same cancellation steps.

Before you cancel your Shopify plan

  • Only the store owner can deactivate. Shopify Support can't do it for you, and Shopify Plus stores must contact Shopify Plus Support.
  • Deactivating cancels your subscription at the end of the current billing cycle, so the store closes then and not immediately.
  • Apps are uninstalled at cancellation, and pending charges such as app usage, transaction fees and shipping labels are billed.
  • Shopify says it has a strict no-refund policy for subscription plans, and no refund for charges in a promotional period.
  • Before you cancel, Shopify suggests exporting store data, resolving gift cards and orders, and reviewing Shopify-managed domains and apps billed outside Shopify.
  • Your store's information is kept for 2 years. Log in as the owner and click Re-open to subscribe again.
  • Pausing selling without deactivating is an option Shopify's page mentions.

After you cancel

Keep the confirmation email or screenshot. Then watch your bank or card for the next billing date: if your Shopify plan charges you again after you cancelled, ask your Shopify plan for a refund first, and if that fails, dispute the charge with your card. The guide to disputing a charge has the steps and the deadlines.
