Quicken Simplifi vs Quicken Classic: which should you use in 2026?

Quicken sells Simplifi and Classic side by side, and they are two separate products that cannot read each other's data. Here is how they differ on price, platform, budgeting, features, switching and what their users say.

We make Wonderful, and it's on this list. Everything said about the other apps comes from their own pricing and help pages, the app stores and what their users say in public, each linked in the sources. Nobody paid to be listed, and we don't earn anything if you pick one of them.

PartnerSpaces sharing: you can share your data with one additional member. They need their own Quicken ID but not their own subscription, and must accept the invite on the web app.[3][5]Quicken's subscription FAQ says Quicken "is currently designed for one user". A spouse or partner can be given access through Data Sharing in Quicken on the Web: they sign in with their own Quicken ID, need no subscription of their own, and see only the data file you share. It works only for a data file synced to the cloud, and it does not give them the desktop app.[2][17]
From Quicken's pages, November 3, 2026. Discounted prices are for the first year of new memberships ordered directly from Quicken; the offers on the pages read end November 29, 2026. Renewal is at the then-current price. Before tax.

How we compared

People ask this when they are about to pay, or about to switch. So we looked at what changes the bill or the work later: the price and whether you can try it, where it runs, how the budget is built, which features sit in which plan, what happens to your data if you move, and how a partner gets in. We read Quicken's pricing comparison, the product pages for each plan, its help articles and the app stores. Every fact is numbered to its source at the end.

Price and trial

Simplifi. Quicken shows $3.99 a month billed annually, with $6.99 beside it. The page says the offer is for the first year, for new memberships ordered directly from Quicken, and does not label the $6.99.[3] Only annual plans are offered. "While we do not offer a free trial" there is a 30-day money-back guarantee from the original purchase date, for purchases made directly on Quicken.com.[7]

Classic. There are four tiers: Starter $4.49, Deluxe $6.99, Premier $7.99 and Business & Personal $10.99 a month, billed annually. The 40% off does not apply to Starter, and the others show the discount for the first year of new memberships.[10][13] "Full payment is charged to your card immediately." The membership renews every year at "the then-current price"; you may cancel before the renewal date.[11][12][13] No money-back guarantee appears on the pricing comparison or Deluxe pages.[10][11]

Put in dollars, the first year is about $48 for Simplifi, $54 for Classic Starter, $84 for Deluxe and $96 for Premier. After that both renew at rates the pages do not state, so check the renewal price before you buy. For the full Simplifi picture see Simplifi pricing in 2026.

Where each runs and where your data lives

Quicken's own words: Simplifi is "an intuitive web and mobile app," and the Classic line is for people who "prefer to work on Windows or macOS" and comes with companion web and mobile apps.[10] A web app plus mobile apps for iOS and Android, usable in the U.S. and Canada.[3][7]

The bigger difference is where the data sits. Simplifi is cloud-based. Quicken's Deluxe page describes Classic as a secure desktop experience "where your data stays local."[11] If you want your financial file on your own machine, that points to Classic. If you want to open it from any browser or your phone with nothing to install, that points to Simplifi.

Two limits on Classic: the Lifetime Planner and Morningstar Portfolio X-Ray are Windows only, and its phone app is a companion to the desktop program.[11][13] Both products are intended for the U.S. and Canada.

How budgeting works

The pricing page puts it in one row. For staying on budget, Simplifi is "based on your income & bills" and Classic is "traditional & category-based."[10]

Simplifi starts from your income, subtracts bills and subscriptions, and shows what you can spend. A spending plan that shows what you can spend per day.[3] Projected cash flow with "what-if" scenarios.[3] The page also lets you ignore spending you do not want counted toward the month.[3]

Classic asks you to set an amount for each category.[10] Budgets: a simple monthly budget on Starter, multiple budgets on Deluxe.[11][12] Multiple budgets are a Deluxe feature on the pricing page, and Starter gets the simple monthly budget.

If you want one number for the day and a projected balance, Simplifi is the closer fit. If you want to cap every category and run more than one budget, Classic is.

Investing, bills and tax

  • Investments. Investment tracking with cost basis, performance analysis and real-time quotes.[3] On Classic, Investing tools on Deluxe and Premier; Premier calculates IRR and ROI and analyzes buys and sells.[12][13]
  • Bills. Simplifi tracks upcoming bills and subscriptions. On Classic, Premier also pays bills: Tracks upcoming bills and subscriptions; bill pay is on Premier, for "over 10,000 billers".[11][13]
  • Tax. Built-in tax reports with export to TurboTax on Premier.[13] Simplifi's pages list no tax reports.
  • Reconciling. Classic reconciles accounts against bank statements. Simplifi lets you mark transactions as reviewed and check a bank total by hand.[10]
  • Planning. A retirement planner.[3] Debt reduction planner and retirement planning on Deluxe and above.[10][13]
  • Support. Support by phone (Monday to Friday), live chat seven days a week, an AI assistant after chat hours and a community forum, all included with every subscription.[4]

Switching between them

This is where many readers get stuck, so here is what Quicken says. Simplifi cannot read your Classic data or the reverse, because Simplifi is a separate product that is exclusively online, and it needs its own subscription.[1] You can import transactions into Simplifi from a CSV file. Importing categories is not supported.[1]

In plain terms: moving from Classic to Simplifi means your history comes across as transactions, and you rebuild categories and rules. Moving the other way is not described on the page we read. Try the new one alongside the old before you cancel. Simplifi has a 30-day refund window on direct purchases, so the check is cheap.[6]

Couples and sharing

Both let a partner in without a second subscription, and neither keeps anything private. Spaces sharing: you can share your data with one additional member. They need their own Quicken ID but not their own subscription, and must accept the invite on the web app.[3][5] Classic, by contrast, is "currently designed for one user," and a partner gets in through Data Sharing on the web, with full read and write on the file.[2][17]

We go through both in Simplifi and Quicken for couples.

A third option

We make Wonderful, so weigh this as you would any maker's note. It is a web app for two people who keep their own money, and for one. Every paycheck gets a plan for bills, spending and saving before it lands.[21] Each person chooses, account by account, whether the other sees everything, only totals, or nothing.[20] It costs $14.99 a month or $99 a year for the household, with a free week first and no free plan after it. It has no iPhone or Android app yet, gives no investment advice and does not reconcile against bank statements or pay bills. If you want a desktop program, pick Classic.
